AI Policy Hub

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform education, learning, and the future of work.

AI is both enabling opportunities and introducing new risks. Policymakers play a critical role in ensuring the balance of safety and innovation. In 2025 alone, more than 1,000 bills were introduced in state legislatures across the US. In education, however, translating questions into actionable guidance has lagged behind the rapid pace of AI advancements. PIE Network members—advocacy organizations representing families, students, educators, business and civic leaders, researchers, and policy experts—are on the front lines shaping the future of AI in education.

To support you, PIE Network and Bellwether are partnering on the AI Policy Hub to connect you with resources, support, and national AI education sector experts. This project will offer:

AI Policy Learning Lab

Launching in February 2026, the AI Policy Learning Lab will connect education advocacy organizations with the nation’s leading experts on the applications of AI in education settings to build their foundational understanding of this fast-moving, consequential field. National experts in AI policy will help address timely questions and build advocates’ knowledge on AI policy issues. The Learning Lab will create and/or identify educational and research-oriented information, such as landscape scans, issue briefs, glossaries, and research summaries, and make them available to PIE Network members. We will also create opportunities for shared learning for experts and practitioners to explore recent advances in the field and overarching questions.

To share a question, area of interest, or seek guidance from the AI Policy Learning Lab, please complete this help request form or email [email protected] or [email protected]. (PIE Network members, check the weekly Rapid Response member newsletter for the password to the form.)

State Advocacy Learning Cohort

Launching in summer 2026, the Hub’s State Advocacy Learning Cohort will strengthen state advocates’ knowledge and understanding of AI practice and policies that affect education. Network members will apply to participate in a cohort of 8-10 state organizations and will meet monthly to learn about AI and the use cases most affecting education, share emerging thinking and draft work products, discuss critical topics in emerging AI technology and policy, and connect with innovators and experts. Between cohort meetings, advocacy organizations will independently draft AI vision statements and guiding principles for discussion with others.

Field-Building Thought Leadership

This summer, the Hub will produce updates and additional field-facing resources to help build a broad understanding and expertise of the policies that affect AI broadly and, specifically, education. Building off of Bellwether’s Learning Systems series, these resources will include a mix of public-facing publications, policy briefs, and webinars.

AI Policy Hub Advisory Committee

The Hub will be guided by an advisory committee of leading experts.
