“MBAE will focus on ensuring that the state lives up to the promises it made as part of the Race to the Top proposal,” Linda Noonan says. “If we are successful, we’ll have a clear and consistent college- and
career-readiness agenda, Common Core standards that move the state forward, and highly effective teachers in every classroom.

Recent Achievements Recent Achievements
  • MBAE was acknowledged for its leadership in passing “An Act Relative to the Achievement Gap,” which raised charter school caps and strengthened provisions for turning around under-performing schools.
  • MBAE played a major role in the state’s adoption of the Common Core State Standards, providing the only independent analysis of how the CCSS compared to the state’s already high standards. The conclusion that the Common Core was as rigorous as the state’s own standards—and stronger in areas considered essential for college and career success—provided key evidence supporting adoption.
  • Gov. Deval Patrick acknowledged MBAE as the voice of the business community in developing the state’s winning Race to the Top proposal and securing $250 million in federal grant money. MBAE called for bold reforms and provided the only external members on working groups drafting the application.
  • Health care became an education issue after MBAE analyzed the state’s school funding formula and determined that a system that once successfully equalized per-pupil funding lost ground due to rising health care costs.
