Karen FrankolaKaren Frankola serves as Media and Communications Director for the PIE Network.

Prior to that, she was global director of Internal Communications and Creative Services for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Her team won two IABC Gold Quill awards for the 2008 Annual Review, and in 2009, Nielsen Norman Group recognized DTT’s intranet as one of the world’s top ten. As the first communications director for the National Institute for Early Education Research, she created its initial communications strategy, launching the organization’s Web site and developing its first policy briefs. Her communications and marketing work for NYUonline, an e-learning subsidiary of New York University, included managing the proposal-writing process, CEO speechwriting, and writing articles for external publication.

Karen’s work in education also includes consulting assignments for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and an online learning startup. As a former Six Sigma Master Black Belt for NBC, Karen launched the network’s first online training. Karen taught broadcast journalism for four years as an associate professor for the University of Missouri. Her journalism experience includes News Director roles at two NBC affiliate stations and producing/editing positions at CNN and MSNBC. Her bylines have appeared in Strategic Communications Management, Workforce, Syllabus, and Newsweek.

Karen has recieved accreditation from the International Association of Business Communicators.

She lives in Durham, N.C.
