Ed Trust West

Mission: The Education Trust—West works for the high academic achievement of all students at all levels, kindergarten through college, and forever closing the achievement and opportunity gaps that separate low-income students and students of color from other youth. Our basic tenet is this – all children will learn at high levels when they are taught to high levels.

“In terms of our legislative efforts, in the first part of the session, we’re very much looking at reforming the state’s seniority-based layoff policies and the teacher evaluation system,” says Arun Ramanathan.

Recent Achievements Recent Achievements
  • The Education Trust—West pressed the state to apply for both rounds of Race to the Top. After California’s first-round loss, ETW developed a blueprint for implementation in the second round, advising the state to take a bottom-up approach and use best practices in state school systems as the driving force of the application. The impressive districts pinpointed by ETW have since formed an externally funded nonprofit, CORE.
  • Advocating for better state use of educational data, ETW co-hosted the event, “From Inputs to Outputs: The Power of Data and Technology to Close the Achievement Gap.” More than 250 state leaders in education, policy, and business learned about the innovative data and policy strategies Californians are using to close the achievement gap.
  • ETW released three separate reports on the crisis in achievement and opportunity for African-American, Latino, and Asian-American and Pacific Islander students.
