Stand for Children is an innovative child advocacy organization whose mission is to use the power of grassroots action to help all children get the excellent public education and strong support they need to thrive. We work by mobilizing everyday citizens to become effective community leaders who stand up for improved public education to create a better America. Stand for Children’s Colorado affiliate was founded in 2009.
Stand—CO’s focus is on implementation of the groundbreaking legislation passed last year. “We only get one chance to ensure that the Great Teachers and Leaders law is truly going to deliver results in the classroom,” says Lindsay Neil.
Recent Achievements
Stand—CO’s work was lauded by SB 191 bill co-sponsor state Sen. Nancy Spence. “Stand for Children in Colorado stood and delivered the most effective lobbying effort in recent memory,” she said. “The Great Teachers and Leaders bill would be history were it not for the dedication of Stand. I’ve never seen a group of people with a greater commitment to improving public education.”
Fifteen of eighteen candidates endorsed by Stand were elected in its first round of legislative endorsements in Colorado.
Stand—CO supported the turnaround of six of Colorado’s lowest-performing schools in North-east Denver, turning out more than ninety speakers to rally and provide testimony at a school board meeting. The board voted to approve the turnaround plans. Stand also worked to end forced teacher placement in low-performing schools within Denver Public Schools.
